Hounslow’s regeneration took a giant leap forward after the council announced the winning bid to redevelop the town centre late on Tuesday (5 November).
Barratt and Wilson Bowden were chosen as the developer at a cabinet meeting after a rigorous procurement exercise.
Councillor Steve Curran, cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration, said: “I was very impressed with all three bids to regenerate the town centre. After deliberation, we have chosen to award this challenging and exciting work to Barratt and Wilson Bowden.
“We were impressed with all three bids, which were of the highest order. The Barratt and Wilson Bowden tender was the best fit with our vision to transform Hounslow town centre into one of west London’s most vibrant, exciting shopping and leisure destinations.”
William Robinson, development director of Barratt and Wilson Bowden, said: “We are looking forward to working with London Borough of Hounslow and stakeholders to turn our vision for this essential regeneration of Hounslow Town Centre into a reality.
“The High Street Quarter will bring a range of retail, leisure and residential opportunities to Hounslow, centred around high quality public realm, creating spaces for events, performances and meeting places, which will seamlessly integrate into the existing fabric of the town and deliver a distinctive and sustainable Hounslow Town Centre for everyone.”
Details of the winning bid are as follows:
- A high quality architecturally designed mixed use scheme seamlessly integrating into the surrounding townscape to create a new urban quarter for the town centre that finally links the Blenheim Centre development back to the High Street
- Scheme proposals contain a multiplex cinema, over 10,000sqm of A1 and A3 retail and a 400 unit residential scheme.
- All set within a high quality public realm with improved linkages to the High Street, including a new public space to complement existing public spaces and facilitating a variety of family orientated activities
- Car-parking to be provided in a predominantly undercroft solution utilising the existing levels
- 41% affordable housing provision
