Hundreds are expected to enjoy a day of fun and activities for free, as Super Saturday of Sport returns to Feltham on Saturday, 18 June.
Supported by Hounslow Council for the second year running, the event will see a host of sports available for all ages to try, with the aim of inspiring everyone of all levels of fitness to enjoy exercise and an active lifestyle.
Local clubs and groups will be at the event, which takes place at Feltham Park from 11am to 3pm.
Pioneer of Freerunning and Parkour, Sebastien Foucan, will be on hand to take the lead in the popular past-time. Foucan, whose skills have seen him appear on the big screen in James Bond film Casino Royale, has been heading up a number of Parkour sessions across Hounslow’s parks in recent months.
Freerunning incorporates movement using apparatus – like climbing frames.
Those taking part gain confidence by trying different ways of getting around a course following basic moves and routines which in turn also build up fitness levels.
Residents will have a chance to take part in free taster sessions throughout the day, including athletics, beach volleyball, hockey and tennis, sports that will feature in the Rio Olympics this summer.
Councillor Corinna Smart, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Leisure, Hounslow Council, said: “This was a very successful event last year and we are pleased to be supporting this once again.
“It is free to attend and we hope that residents, young and old get to enjoy a fun and active day in their local community.”
Super Saturday is also working with One You Hounslow to promote the local health and lifestyle options available to Feltham and surrounding residents.
One You is one of the largest Public Health England campaigns to be launched since Change4Life and is set to be the biggest campaign to target the adult population in leading a healthier life.
The service provides a broad range of advice, information and support from healthy lifestyle specialists through a dedicated website and online services, telephone and face-to-face support.
One You Hounslow health advisors will host a stall in the chill-out marquee at the event to give residents information on how to make lifestyle changes such as exercising, drinking less, eating healthier food and stop smoking.
Kulvinder Jhita, Business Manager for the One You Hounslow service, said: “I’m delighted that our One You Hounslow team have been given this opportunity to take part in a fun-filled day for parents and children.
“These sports events are important because we are all about offering a personalised approach to healthcare that is also enjoyable.”
Event organiser, Kirsten Lonsdale, said: “Last year, we attracted hundreds to the first ever Super Saturday of Sport at Feltham.
“We are pleased to be working again with Hounslow Council on this event and hope that we will see many more residents getting active and enjoying a free community day.”
