England rugby star Marlie Packer will join the celebrities at Sunday’s Be Inspired Festival, it has been confirmed today.
The Wasps flanker will be helping to promote women’s rugby in the Sports Zone, and will help to welcome the Webb Ellis Cup – the official Rugby World Cup trophy – to the park.
The Be Inspired Festival takes place on Sunday 13 September at Redlees Park, Isleworth. It’s the borough’s biggest family fun day, featuring big name musical acts headlined by Billy Ocean, and supported by an array of local performers, plus dance, fashion and a heap of other fun and engaging activities. Some 10,000 people are expected to attend.
The Sports Zone will be a major focal point of the day, featuring sports try-outs and demonstrations of a range of sports and activities. As a Proud Host of Rugby World Cup 2015, Hounslow Council has been working with the Tournament organisers and Rugby Football Union to increase participation in rugby, as part of a wider campaign to increase levels of physical activity and to encourage Hounslow residents to get active and healthy. Festival-goers will be able to get up close and personal with rugby’s most prestigious trophy and enjoy a free day of activity and entertainment.
Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, says: “I’m delighted to welcome Marlie Packer to The Be Inspired Festival. It’s tremendously exciting to have an England rugby star supporting our work, and she will certainly help to increase the excitement about the Tournament too. Be Inspired will be a great day out for all the family. Residents will get a taste of the excitement of Rugby World Cup 2015 and an opportunity to see and try new activities; and enjoy top-class entertainment.”
Marlie Packer said: “I’m really excited to be attending the Be Inspired Festival. It’s fantastic to see how rugby and sports are being promoted in the borough on the back of Rugby World Cup 2015 and I’m looking forward to getting involved. It promises to be a great day!”
