Shortlisted in Business Awards
Hounslow Highways has been shortlisted in the West London Business Awards ‘Green Business of the Year’ category in recognition of its approach to delivering a more maintainable and sustainable highway infrastructure.
The Hounslow Highways 25-year project is geared to the immediate need for network regeneration, however the multi-faceted features of the project ensure that there are clear sustainability drivers that ensure the nature of the works and materials used are delivered in a green way that meets not just transportation needs, but also the environmental enhancements that improve the quality of life of those living, working and visiting the borough.
High Street Revitalisation
The new-look High Street will be a more welcoming and accessible area at the heart of Hounslow.
The revamp of the High Street will see new seating and paving installed, trees planted, and will remove existing clutter to transform the appearance of the street and provide new facilities for outdoor events and performances.
Fall in anti-social behaviour
New figures released by the police show a fall in the number of reports of anti-social behaviour in the borough.
The news follows the release of crime figures for Hounslow which also show an improvement.
There were over 1,000 fewer reports of ASB between June and September this year, compared to the same period in 2012 – an eight per cent drop.
More free parking in borough
Free stop-and-shop parking for half an hour is to be rolled out across Hounslow on all shopping streets with pay and display, following a decision by the council’s Cabinet this week, (5 November).
The move follows the announcement of two new shopping parades in Chiswick - Devonshire Parade and Turnham Green Terrace – being added to the 14 currently in operation around the borough.
Protecting front line services
The council is planning to invest an extra £1.8 million on adult care services next year, and is well on course to meet its £12 million savings target.
The plans were discussed and agreed at last night’s cabinet meeting, and include a re-iteration of the council’s commitment to protecting front line services.
Among the savings, more than £4 million has been identified from unspent budgets, thanks to tougher spending controls and careful financial management.
TC Developer announced
Hounslow’s regeneration took a giant leap forward after the council announced the winning bid to redevelop the town centre late on Tuesday (5 November).
Barratt and Wilson Bowden were chosen as the developer at a cabinet meeting after a rigorous procurement exercise.
