A key milestone in the regeneration of Heston Farm Estate has been reached as the final roof slab has been laid on Passingham House.
To mark the occasion, representatives from the council, Hounslow Homes and developers Lovell helped position the final piece of the roof, of the new four-storey development on Wednesday (11 September).
The new £5.9 million mixed tenure housing development on the Heston Farm Estate is building modern, energy-efficient apartments at the former Passingham House sheltered housing site.
It is the first of six new housing schemes being delivered as part of a wide-ranging regeneration programme on the Brabazon, Northfield Road and Redwood Estates and at HarlechGardens and Norman Crescent.
The new development will create a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Set for completion in March 2014, it will provide 17 homes for open market sale by Lovell, five low-cost home ownership homes which will be available through a shared equity scheme and 19 homes for affordable rent for Hounslow Homes, including two properties designed for residents who use wheelchairs.
Cllr Steve Curran, cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration at the council, said:
“This marks the end of a key milestone in the redevelopment of the estate, which will ultimately create more than 150 new homes for local families, and will help breathe new life into the area.
“They are a good mix of affordable and private homes, which are being built alongside environmental improvements such as better landscaping, resurfacing the ball park and improving the play facilities so children can play safely.
“The scheme will help us reach our target of getting 2,500 new affordable homes built or approved by 2014, giving thousands of local people the homes they need.”
Martyn Kingsford, Chair of Hounslow Homes, said:
“At a time when less than 80,000 homes will be completed in this country Hounslow Council and Hounslow Homes are to be congratulated for having a major house building programme in the Borough.
“Passingham House with 41 new homes is part of that programme. Lovell’s are to be praised for maintaining the programme and being on time.”
Lovell regional director Peter Taylor said:
“This is a significant point in the build programme and we are pleased to be celebrating it with our partners in this major regeneration programme. This new development will deliver much-needed new housing locally, both for sale and affordable rent and will also include low-cost home ownership properties helping local people take their first step on to the housing ladder.”
The new homes are being built to be 44 per cent more energy-efficient than homes built to current building regulations. Sustainable features include a biodiverse roof and photovoltaic panels which will provide power to the communal areas.
