Owners of a Chiswick interior furnishing shop have revealed why west London was a better bet for their business than trendy Islington.
Lin Leung and Tricia Joyce of Decorexi in the High Road said they have not looked back since locating to Chiswick in May 2013 .
Lin said: “We relocated from north London to west as soon as the right store became available. West London is a great hub and Chiswick in particular is a fantastic location, near the river with good road and public transport links into and out of London.”
Lin, who was speaking in the run up to Small Business Saturday this weekend, said running her own business gives her a sense of freedom.
She said: “It’s great having total autonomy in how we run things from when we open to what jobs we take on.”
So what is the secret to Lin’s success?
We sell an eclectic mix of furniture, lighting and giftware not found in the high street chains,” said Lin.
“We provide a very personal service where we’ve got to know many of the local community who love our hands on approach and can do attitude.”
And Lin has some advice to anyone thinking of starting up a business.
She said: “Don’t assume you can employ a manager to do everything for you. Our customers love us because we get involved ourselves from day one – from meeting the customer to delivering the final job.
“Above all, know your market, know your product or service, know your competition and be prepared to work harder than you’ve ever done before!”
