Fly tipper caught dumping gets £400 fine
Hounslow Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) joined forces with Hounslow Council’s enforcement team to helpidentify a fly tipper who was filmed dumping waste.
A Hounslow SNT officer took a witness statement from an eagle-eyed resident who discreetly filmed a fly tipper dumping fence panels and other items on open land in Hounslow.
The footage, which the SNT officer handed to the council’s enforcement team, showed the fly tipper unloading items from a van.
The council’s enforcement team searched the DVLA’s database to find out who the registered keeper of the vehicle which led to the driver being identified.
As a result, the driver was issued a hefty £400 fine.
Councillor Sue Sampson said: “I thank the community minded resident who acted quickly when witnessing this blatant dumping, which took place during daylight hours. It shows that residents support our aims of a cleaner, greener borough and are as disgusted as we are when they see someone irresponsibly dumping goods.
“Why should the actions of a mindless few spoil the environment for the majority of us who wouldn’t dream of offloading our unwanted goods on our open spaces?
“Let this be a warning to anyone considering fly tipping their rubbish in our borough – no matter how many times you may look over your shoulder you never know who is watching you.”
The fine has been paid since being issued.
