Christmas shoppers are promised festive fun and bargains galore at the new Hounslow market which is launched this Saturday 6 December in Hounslow High Street.
The newly refurbished location will host a spectacular display of giant tulips throughout the opening day, alongside an exciting array of market stalls and entertainment, including pantomime Dames, hula hoop stars, fairies and elves!
Hounslow Council and the Mayor of London have jointly funded the first £3.5m phase of refurbishment which has allowed the market to open in time for Christmas. It includes the market areas and two performance areas – one at Bell Square to the West and Church Square in the centre. These will provide a platform for a variety of entertainment and activity.
The works programme has been halted over the festive break to allow visitors to shop in peace, but will resume in the New Year. When the first phase is completed in April 2015 the High Street will boast a neater, greener look with new paving, seating and trees.
The market will operate from Tuesday to Friday in Bell Square and Tuesday to Saturday in the High Street. It will sell a range of women’s clothing and accessories, hot and cold food, including Thai and Mauritian delicacies, and seasonal gingerbread and confectionary.
Councillor Sue Sampson, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, explains: “The High Street is now being radically improved and the market will now open on Small Business Saturday and in time for Christmas. It will breathe new life into Hounslow as a shopping centre and, with performances and entertainment throughout the day, it will be a fun and vibrant new shopping destination drawing visitors from far and wide.”
