Brentford-based Octink has been based in West London for over five decades. The company has grown from a small family business into one of the UK’s leading producers of signage, graphics, decorated interiors and build solutions for clients in the retail, live event, leisure, property and construction sectors both in the UK and internationally.
Founded in 1962 in Ealing, the company started out supplying signage to the petroleum industry. Since then, Octink’s knowledge, reliability and commitment to quality service have formed the basis of partnerships with its customers. Today Octink is the trusted partner of choice for many big brands. It moved to its premises in Brentford in 2002.
Octink provides a wide variety of services, from concept and design through to manufacture and installation, with an impressive portfolio including display graphics, signage, events, exhibitions, interiors, marketing suites, site protection and safety signage. Investment in state-of-the-art printing technology as well as its geographical location and access to core skills gives it capabilities on a par with the UK’s leading printers.
Chief Executive Will Tyler, son of the company’s founder, comments: “When my father started this business over 50 years ago, the signage and display was an industry in its infancy, but today we are an international company. The core of our customers and supply chain is located in London and the South East, so our base in Brentford affords us the ideal location to be able to provide the service levels and access to market that we and our customers desire.”
“Being close to Heathrow is another key factor for us, with several of our longstanding clients – representing around 30% of our turnover – also based in the area. In addition, we have recently opened a new office in Dubai, so easy access to regular flights from Heathrow is essential to us in supporting the early days of this new venture.”
With around 70% of its workforce living within 10 miles of its premises, Octink strives to work in close partnership with the local community. The company has been recognised nationally for its approach to corporate responsibility and commitment to community investment. One of only 39 companies in the UK to achieve the CommunityMark from Business in the Community, the company has strong partnerships with local charities and community organisations including Spark! and Cultivate London.
Managing Director, Mike Freely explains “Directors and employees alike are actively involved into our community activities. Will, for example, is Chairman of Spark!, a charity that creates links between local schools and businesses to improve the employability of young people, while I am a Director of Cultivate London, an innovative urban farm and social enterprise based across multiple derelict sites in West London. Coupled with our memberships of the Brentford, Hounslow, and London Chambers of Commerce, we are truly ingrained in the local fabric of this area and benefit hugely from the partnerships, associations and relationships that have been formed.”
