CITB and the London Enterprise Panel (LEP) have joined forces to support a new programme, Building for Growth, which offers a package of completely free support to small and medium sized construction firms in London to grow their company and win new business. In Central and West London Building for Growth is being led by a team from Shared Intelligence and MTW Consultants, who have previously led significant projects including Supply Cross River and Supply Nine Elms.
The Building for Growth programme consists of a series of workshops, tailored one-to-one support and an e-learning initiative. Workshops are designed to get SMEs over the most common barriers to growth, including pre-qualification, getting the correct accreditations, marketing, and developing a robust plan for. At each workshop firms get a chance to meet senior buyers from major contractors.

What businesses are saying about the programme:
“The CITB Building for Growth workshop was another great opportunity for smaller contractors such as us. A relevant training session together with a direct introduction to the main buyer(s) of a potentially large client held in one morning at a convenient location is the perfect combination for smaller contractor with little time to spare. Having the buyer commenting and giving his own perspective during the training session has given me an invaluable insight. The restricted numbers of attendees makes it possible to have a meaningful conversation on a 1 to 1 basis with the buyers. I would recommend this to any contractor trying to get in with the larger players in the construction industry.” – Thomas Russell, Skyline Solar Roofing
“As a local London business…it’s really great to have the educational facilities and of course the referrals to some of the main contractors that Building for Growth will be able to offer us.” Ben Hawkes, Director, The Flooring Group Ltd
“We thought the event today was very useful; Dennis Wilson from Land Lease and Jillian Lilico were both impressive and presented their side of the tendering process in a very clear and compelling way.” Miles Watson, Urban Eye
“This evening’s been very informative, very interesting. Good to meet lots of supply chain potential. Lots of diversity in terms of what people are able to offer. I look forward to working with some of the businesses that we’ve met” Kevin Griffiths – Commercial Manager for Housing, Mitie
